There is increasing likelihood that analog transmission will last longer than originally anticipated. With this in mind, work was undertaken to establish whether this new product offers the same benefits in analog operation.

Practical test results on three- and five-stage collector IOTs are presented and the practicalities of depressed collector IOT operation are discussed for both digital and analog use. A comparison is made with the performance of conventional IOTs operating at similar powers, along with a discussion of the demands placed on the various tube types in terms of collector power dissipation and cooling requirements. Implications for the characteristics of power supplies required for the various collector stages are also discussed.

Mary-Liz was a widow and Don a widower when they got married. They had been family friends when their late spouses were alive. Don's daughter Penny, office manager at Sutro Tower, died in February of 2001. Dan was the retired manager of Sutro Tower and he died in December of 2001.
